Safety Officer – Saudi Arabia Hiring
Description
A Safety Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and compliant working environment, especially in high-risk industries such as construction, oil & gas, and petrochemical projects. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that all workplace activities are carried out in accordance with established health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations. Safety Officers are responsible for identifying potential hazards, reducing workplace risks, and implementing preventive safety measures to protect workers, equipment, and project sites. In large industrial zones like SABIC Jubail, this role becomes even more essential due to the complexity and scale of operations. The Safety Officer not only enforces safety standards but also promotes a culture of awareness and responsibility among employees, ensuring smooth project execution without incidents or delays.
Key Responsibilities
The Safety Officer is responsible for conducting regular site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures. They actively monitor ongoing work activities, especially high-risk tasks, to ensure that proper protective equipment (PPE) is used at all times. Another key duty includes preparing and delivering safety induction sessions and toolbox talks for workers to increase awareness of workplace hazards. The Safety Officer also investigates accidents or near-miss incidents, prepares detailed reports, and recommends corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Coordination with project supervisors, engineers, and contractors is essential to ensure all safety guidelines are strictly followed. Additionally, maintaining updated safety documentation and ensuring compliance with client and regulatory requirements forms a core part of daily responsibilities.
Skills and Knowledge
A qualified Safety Officer must possess strong knowledge of occupational health and safety standards, especially in industrial and petrochemical environments. Experience with Aramco or SABIC-approved projects is highly preferred. The candidate should have valid certifications such as EPM approval and PetroKEMYA authorization, along with a recognized safety qualification like NEBOSH or equivalent. Strong communication skills are essential to effectively train workers and report safety issues to management. The role also requires excellent observation skills, quick decision-making ability, and a proactive approach toward hazard prevention. Prior experience in shutdown or long-term construction projects is considered an advantage, along with the ability to work under pressure in large-scale industrial sites.
